ponder this…

Why is it that 12 comes before one?? and i’m talking about our time… i’d like to know more on how the whole time-o-day came about, like who, when, where, and how much had they drank that week….but mostly WHY… why is 12am in middle of night (before 1 am) and 12 pm is in the afternoon… again, before 1pm….

the 12 marks the end of the twelfth hour. Kind of like how your birthday marks the finishing of a year of life, not the start of a new one.

Time makes much more sense when counted as military 24 hour time. Midnight is 2400 hours and one minute past midnight is 0001 hours. I wish we did more of that in the US, but we don’t.

Here’s the history of the 12 hour clock. The origins date back to ancient Egypt and Rome:

do they pratice the “no room number 13″ in hotels and motels there?
13 being such an unlucky number, managers and owners found it easier to just exclude the number while numbering rooms to avoid pissing off the supersticous customer that would sooner or later get assigned to that room…

I lived in an apartment building that was 15 floors and there was no 13th floor. I lived on floor 10 and never noticed that the elevator buttons skipped the 13th floor till a friend pointed it out to me.

I don’t remember anything about the apartment numbers, we didn’t have 2 digit apartment numbers so there wouldn’t have been a 13.

But, did we have 113, 213, 313,…I can’t remember but I think we did. (I was 1007).

Just thought I’d throw that in the conversation, cause its kind of funny.

Now everytime I’m in a building with more than 12 floors, I look too see if there is a 13th floor. Believe it or not, it happens quite often!

sleeping too long can make you feel tired as well…
if i sleep more than 6.5 - 7 hours i feel like crap…
best sleep i get is right about 6 hrs…
also makes a big difference what you’re sleeping on and the temp of the room… many things can cause you to wake up…
getting too hot or cold, faint noises that would normally worry you (like glass breaking, you’d naturally wonder where it is from, as opposed to a t.v or ‘normal’ noise you’d normally ignore)
but mainly stress is the main cause for most people not getting enough rest.
you can be midly depressed and not even realize it… one of the ways you can tell is by your sleep habits…

but all that aside, it is winter (if you’re in norther hemi.) so this is the time for colds and flus and what not, and if your body is fighting a sickness, you might not feel sick, but it can make you restless and tired even after a goodnights rest…

12 is the ultimate number for a cycle. That’s why we have 12 zodiac signs. If you ask me why we don’t go back to 0 instead of 1, to my mind, we are almost 1 the minute we were born.

Culturally speaking, some countries count the nine month in the womb as a year. That’s why when they tell how old they are, they normally add one year to the age from the legal age.

ahhh… makes sense… never really thought of it that way… though i also heard somewhere that the body just grows, and doesnt age until it hits oxygen… though that wasn’t said by any scientists(wanna say it was a doctor, but he might have been a quack..)
though if you wanted to get technical, we’d only be a year and 3/4 on our first birthday… mmmm… never really thought into that… when people ask “how old are you?” they’re not specifically asking you “how long ago was your birthday” …

nowadays, the pragmatical maths is to round it up or down. So, it we round 3/4 up by quaters only, we have one. I know it’s kind of a far strech, but could work. hehe

Because there is 24 hours in a day and half of that is 12, and it has to get round the clock twice before 24 hours has gone by.
