Today Stacy went to the thrift store.
She purchased three blouses. Then she left to go to the library. About an hour later Maude from the thrift store called Stacy on Stacy’s cell phone to inform Stacy that she should come back because they just put out some things Stacy might like. So Stacy went back.
Carmen was behind the counter with two other cashiers . As Stacy was paying she noticed a few clothing items behind the counter.
Stacy: “That is pretty - what is it”
Carmen: “It is a shawl. Do you want it”
Stacy: “Let me see it”
Carmen showed it to Stacy
Stacy: “Nah”
Carmen: “It is an extra large it is too big for me I take a medium” Stacy thinks that Carmen was just stating a fact about Carmen.
This got Stacy upset with what Carmen said.
Stacy: “Do you think I am an extra large”
Carmen: “I am only asking because I have seen you buy larges, extra larges. You are a good friend and you always come in here so I thought I would offer it to you”
Stacy: “Did you ask everyone besides me if they wanted that”
Carmen: “Yes”
Stacy: “What about Denise” (Denise is another cashier)
Carmen: “I asked her, she does not want it. She is skinny”
Stacy: “I am thin too”
Carmen: “Yes you are but you are also tall, Denise is short” Stacy is not quite sure of the wording but Carmen said something like “why are you taking everything the wrong way”
Denise: “What is upsetting you Stacy”
Stacy: “It is just that I thought Carmen was saying I was fat”
Denise and Carmen: “You are skinny, every one knows that”
That night Stacy called Rita and related the entire story to Rita. Rita said “No Carmen was not implying you take an extra large or large, she was just stating what she takes and she was telling you she was not purchasing it. She was just making conversation and she knows you buy larges and extra larges. And she even told you she thinks you are skinny. And I am sure she thinks you can fit into a medium and single digit sizes”
