My name is John, I am 18 years old and want to pursue a career in music.

I play the guitar and it is my favourite thing in the whole world. I recently applied to both Humber Jazz and Mohawk Jazz, and didn’t get into either. My parents say that I can’t stay home next year unless i continue going to school and change my career path. This is not something I want to do because my passion is music and i want it to be my life. Im a very good player according to my teachers however I am lacking in sight reading and theory. I currently do not have a job to pay for private lessons or to maintain a living on my own. What should I do?

Stay in school and do guitar as a hobby to pull in cash on the streets to pay for lessons maybe?

Stay in school and keep up with the guitar. Go to some open mic nights and see what’s going on if someone can take you under their wing re more lessons. But stick at it. Music is a wonderful life.
