std help: Can you get herpes simplex 2 from smoking or drinking after someone who gets cold sores? - Help.com

Can you get herpes simplex 2 from smoking or drinking after someone who gets cold sores?

I just recently found out that herpes can be transmitted from the mouth to the genitals, because a good friend has herpes simplex 2 on her mouth and unknowingly ended up giving a bunch of people genital herpes through oral sex….even though she doesnt even have genital herpes. All I really want to know is how close of contact you need to have to contract it….like do you have to make out with the person? or can you get it by sharing a glass of water? i read somewhere that you cant get it from a toilet seat…so idunno…any help would be welcome.

In as issue of Mens Health circa 2002-2003 there is an article re: this matter and HSV can be transmitted from the mouth to the genitals-as far as drinking and smoking after someone, I have found that anything is possible, and it’s best not to do anything like that just to be on the safe side-these days you just never know-and Herpes is rampant
