What’s the proper way to ask a girl to prom?

Can I just ask, or do I have to take it to the next level and organize some grand scheme to ask?

Say something like;

Say something like, “I know that someday into the far future you might get married, but before you do would you go to the prom with me?”

Just be yourself and always act confident. Know that rejection is an option, but keep your chest high.
