Simply put, nothing is pre-determined.

There is no fate, or “it was meant to be” or “everything happens for a reason”. Those are cop-outs, ways of absolving ourselves of responsibility and denying our free will. Any scenerio that one person can come away from a better person, someone else can come away from that same situation a worse person. I would love to expand on this, but maybe this is enough to think about for now?
