i think just be completely honest with him. if you are and show you are remorseful he should stand by you through your difficult time.

Yea i agree with classicrock, it would be better to tell him. Let him feel in the loop, its easyer for him to understand and help you that way. What was it that made you start again? Have you ever been told about the red pen of elasticband techniques? They are alternatives to cutting that work for alot of people. Hope this helps.

You may not have to tell him. Once he sees the scars, you will have to explain. I would try to prevent that and tell him beforehand.
