how the process works, basically. call the police for somebody else? just show up for yourself? the business of signing yourself in? can someone force you to stay at one? if so, under what circumstances? do you need insurance?

To get someone sectioned its VERY difficult, over here (UK) the easiest way is through your GP, the will contact the crisis team who will send people over to assess you and decide whether you need to stay in a hospital or not, you can go voluntarily and do not have to be sectioned to go into hospital. You can’t be forced without extreme circumstances being in place. I don’t know about insurance as we have the NHS over here. What are your circumstances? I can help more with more detail

Oi, check it: last febuary, in 2008, I was arrested at the hands of my high school’s liason officer for plotting to murder 5 people. So they said. As a result, I was sent to the psyche ward of my city’s biggest hospital. Four days and one mental evaluation later, I was sent to a facility for the mentally unstable eight hours away from my home. How that all happened was that I and my four other siblings had to stay with my catholic grandparents until my mom was able to care for us again, after sobering up. Well, these people were very manipulative and controlling. Every day, I took all my rage out on this composition book, and in those pages was concentrated hatred for God and all associated things thereof. My pregnant (and really mean) roomie (and she was also 20) snooped under my mattress and found this book. Two hours later, Christine was in the psychiatric unit at Regional Hospital. Well, putting a little n00b in a mental facility didn’t help, seeing as how I was an uber outcast wherever I went. I was kept there on the grounds that I was capable of murder, and therefore was not able to handle being among people like my grandparents. I was released a month later because my mom is a member of an indian Tribe (legally) and they pulled me from that horrible place. Hope that answered all your questions about that.

hmmm… i was admitted for bipolar disorder by my own admission once upon a time after having made several suicide attempts & obviously failing. woke up in a hospital once after an attempt as well. the thing about failing at suicide is that you end up feeling like an even bigger loser because you can’t even get that right, but that’s another story.

basically if you or someone you know feels that they are a danger to themselves/yourself or someone else, go to your nearest hospital & tell them. they will get someone to talk to you & evaluate you. if you’re concerned for your safety at the hands of someone else, say a relative, call the police and report a disturbed person & they will take care of things.

either way, if psyche admission is necessary it needs to be done without delay…. time is of the essence because you never know what might send someone off the deep end and really hurt themselves or someone else.
