I need some help coming up with a gift Idea

my (only) friend’s birthday is coming up in a month or so, and i am freaking out about a gift idea.
i am a recent immigrant and i was raised in a culture where gifts aren’t usually exchanged, so i never really got anyone a gift before…. i am clueless, and i am NOT getting a gift card !

i cant think of anything thoughtful or nice. she has everything (kind of wealthy parents), and i dont have that much money to buy anything fancy … i need some help !

the only thing that i can think of is: i build sail ship models as a hobby , they are very decorative and nice looking and i was thinking i should give my best one as a gift. but i am not sure if that is a lame gift or not …..

please comment on my ( probably stupid ) idea and propose something that you think might work

First, giving something hand made is truly better than anything you might buy. A handmade anything that you took time to make just for your friend is a very nice thing. Another gift to consider is an activity, like say taking them to lunch/dinner/museum/art gallery, or perhaps offering tickets to a play/musical/concert if that’s within your budget. It’s not the cost or size of the gift, it’s really the thoughtfulness that counts.

the best gift for the person who has everything is something unique, but personal to them. Your model ship idea is very thoughtful and unique and will be a good idea if she shares your nautical interests. but if not, she may not like it. what are her interests/hobbies? has she mentioned a new interest or starting a new hobby? does she like a particular color or monograms?

A gift is a gift, personally I love handmade gifts, as long as it comes from the heart, as we always say, its the thought behind it that counts hon. Flowers are always nice, take her to lunch as Clemessin said , a nice book mark, bookstores have some lovely ones, barnes and noble, they don’t too much. A nice picture frame with a photograph of you both in it maybe ?

I’m totally backing Sasha on this one. Handmade is always a great gift, something from the heart. If that doesn’t work for you flowers are always a hit. One thing I know about women, after 3 years old, they ALL love getting flowers.

but you have to get the right kind of flowers. you wanna send her “just friends” flowers, not “i love you” flowers (unless u’re trying to make a move)

Take a photo you the two of you. If you have a computer you can crop it take part of the picture out. then have it printed and framed. It makes a wonderful gift, and isn’t expensive.
