One of my best friends is dying.

She is now in a hospice and has days left to live. I visited last night but did not have the words to say goodbye. I gave her a bug hug and a kiss then slipped out when the nurse came in. I called her husband when I got home, and he thought it was ok. I will go back today and say a proper goodbye, but how do you say goodbye to someone close knowing you will never see them again?

I feel really sorry for ur friend.
I always considered death as a great boon, as it leaves the soul in peace after all the misery, pain and stress of life. But loss of your dear ones, will always hurt.

it might have to do with what your beliefs of the afterlife are, maybe give some feel as if its not the last time you will see her, which seems comforting for someone that is going to die. Try to find the right words by looking back to the relationship to the past. Find memories, stories, and try not to be direct with a “goodbye”, we all dont like the idea of things ending, specially a life.

Hope this helps…

i never been at that situation, never had a chance to say goodbye…
but if i could talk to my friends that died once more, i would first apologize for things that bothers me to this very day…
its a guilt that can have no redemption.
so here you have a chance.

i would make a laugh on old times. i would want to leave them with a smile.

I saw a quote a while back now, but it always stayed in my mind.

While we are mourning the death of our friend, others are waiting to welcome him beyond the veil.

I was walking through the graveyard earlier, and all the graves seem engraves with similar messages:
.Until we meet again
.You may be lost but your footsteps remain
.Remembered in memory
.Walking with God
etc, and this one:
-Do not stand at my grave and cry, for I am not here. I did not die.

Just because your friend is dying doesn’t make it the end. She will live on in you for as long as you keep her in your heart.
Do you believe in an afterlife? In life after death? If so, you will be together once more.
x

Thanks for that Tears. I saw her tonight and told her how much her friendship has meant to me. We laughed about old times and listened to some music together. I may never see her again but she will always be with me.
