it might sound a bit redundant, but google usually points me to the answers i’m looking for. i’ve actually ‘helped’ people on here but simply cutting and pasting there question into the search-engine. really, it’s not that hard.

Thanks Gynan Tonix. Yes, one would think that if a person can type in help.com then they also know about google.com, yahoo.com, ask.com, search.com and so on. But I suppose listing major search engines isn’t a bad idea.

I love wikipedia.com- but it’s not a great source for school work since anyone and everyone can go in and change the info. But, here’s a few others I used in school…

The worst ones are when they say; “Can you help me with math?” Like seriously, if you post a question as rediculous as that, then I’m not even gonna bother trying to help.

Lol. This reminds me, I had a homework rant like this a while ago called These days, “doing research” means, “asking Help.com”. After I find it, I’ll post it.

Oh. Here it is. Nevermind:
These days, “doing research” means, “asking Help.com”.
I’m getting sick of it. No, I’m not going to blow up the whole world because of this, mind you. I just felt like ranting about it. Why is it that so few people know to look at Google, Wikipedia, or Dictionary.com? Honestly, if you need to know what a word means, weren’t you ever taught what a dictionary is? Yes, some of these words are obscure, but the word “dictionary” is quite common, don’t you think? And biographical information… apparently, everyone has checked Google and Wiki, but for some reason, the links only show up when WE look. I’m getting tired of this. If you want everything handed to you, fine. If you expect me to do it for you, tough sh*t. HelpBot! I have a request! Please post the following message on any post containing the words, “definition”, “biography”, “history”, and/or “homework”. Ready? Here we go:

Problems with doing your own research?

Generally speaking, if you are having issues finding and/or using well-known research sites, it is best to check your spelling, or just give up and go to the library. Otherwise, these links can get you started:

Google.com, Wikipedia.com, Dictionary.com

If you are trying to access these services and they aren’t working for you, (even though they’re working for everyone else) we suggest you rent your brain to science. Immediately.

Note: I’m a robot that the Help.com staff created, and my response was written by the site’s resident dragon. If this response is in error, I apologize, but please keep it in mind anyway.

Looks like I got here too late; all of the really great helpful sites for students have already been provided.

Occasionally, I run into questions from worried PARENTS on how to help / motivate their kids to study. To that end, I found this site consisting mostly of helpful articles for those PARENTS:

Website homepage: http://math-and-reading-help-for-kids…

The articles within the above site provide helpful insights and aid to the PARENTS of school kids ranging from elementary school through college prep ages.

Just as a side-rant: I’ll gladly refer kids asking for homework help to this post … but I’m getting just a bit tired of reading those kinds of requests posted in text-like gibberish. If they’re seriously asking for help with this sort of topic, they should at least summon up the courtesy and respect to word their request in plain spoken English. Posts that read: “I nede sum HeLp cuZ teecher sez im falin n wel probly git xpeled soon” is getting a bit old for me. Good grief already, if they seriously can’t write better than that, I can only hope that they do get failing grades.

“In my day,” he says. I love it, Snar, that voice of wisdom echoing from the depths of your late teen years, haha.

In MY day, I’ll have you know, when there was no internet and the only computers were the size of tanks and had all the computing power of your typical lower-end digital watch, we had to go to the library. For those of you unfamiliar with the word, look it up on dictionary.com. It’s AKA the media center. AND we had to walk twenty miles through the snow (uphill both ways) to reach it, where we researched our projects with the help of a guy named Dewey.

Ah, but while wisdom increases the farther you get from the teen years (we hope), omniscience decreases steadily until the moments before you die, when the only things you know for sure are the simplest.

I know of a comedian named 2 Gryphon, and I like to check in on his stuff now and then. On his LiveJournal, recently, he had a post that kinda startled me. He’d gone in for heart surgery, and, while they did drug him up, he had to be awake for the whole thing. What wasn’t expected, was that due to his years of habitual drinking, the drugs only made him sort of fuzzy. So… he could remember everything as he died three times, and then lived to write about it.

I’ll have to link to that post later.
