I dislike ‘OK’ being used in a text message

You know how difficult it is to tell what kind of mood someone is in when they’re texting you. I find ‘ok’ to be quite neutral in the sense that you can use it in the context of any mood. For me, personally, it always represents a bad mood, and so I really wish people would stop texting me with it. Having said that, of course, I only use ‘ok’ when I’m in a bad mood :-)

if “OK” is a response to one of your previous messages; you should consider what you had sent :-)

That’s just it, sometimes I could be telling a story that happened to me, and the reply would be ‘ok’!

thats because you are confusing conversational messaging with text messaging.

IM is conversational; you kind off have a conversation.

Text is non-conversational; its sending statements.

Although what dsfh says may hold true for most people, it doesn’t hold true for myself and other people I talk to. If all people do is say ‘kay’, then it’s more the person than texting. I know someone like that, I’ll give a long speech, or ask a grand question or something and all they’ll say is ‘oh’ or ‘idk’ or ‘okay’ (and this is over instant messaging, not texting), and it’s quite obvious he doesn’t want to talk even though he started the conversation.

So maybe it’s just the people who you’re talking to. Maybe they just don’t care. shrug.

It’s hard to gather a persons emotional state via txt or email. The body language, tonality and other forms of sub communication that make up about 70% of human communication are lost. Txts are even shorter and more difficult to type than email. I like emoticons:D

ya i know what you mean, if someone has to reply with ‘ok’ why not added with an emotion like ok :D or ‘ya fine :)’ ok alone seems like im not that interested in what i’ve read previously from you ..

I will admit that some people who text me ‘ok’ may not realise they’re being rude, but still, they enquire about what’s wrong with me if I use it.
