When a girl is on her period, is the blood normal-colored?

Brightish red? Or is it a rusty brown? I realize this may be a stupid question, but I’d appreciate it answered.

I can get a wide range- usually depending on which part of the period I’m on, From bright red- to a dark ugly brown. Depends.

-relief- Because I’ve been getting darkish-brown stains on my undergarments, and I had no idea what it was. Of course, it only occurred to me after a few days of this that it could be my period. I’ve never had it before, and I’m at a reasonable age to start. So I’m hoping that’s what it is :) Thanks for your replies ^^
