Usually the last week of school there is nothing to do. For a family illness if you tell the school about this you might be able to get your kids school work for the rest of the week and just turn it at the last day.

Good point. Last week of school, exams will probably be over. Or maybe they can make up any exams and not have to attend summer school itself.

Like I said just talk to the school about it, I am sure they will help.

usually schools allow children to miss finals for extinuating circumstances. The best thing to do is send a note in advance and talk to whoever is in charge of absenses. Get their assignments or reschedule any final exams. Then you will also need to talk to them before school ends to make sure everyone including your children and teachers are on the same page. I know it seems like a lot to do but I have see many of my old classmates messed up because their parents or themselves failed to let the school know or make sure everyone had their Ps and Qs. Also get everything in writing. That’s the most important. No one can deny it if it’s in their writing with their signature

the only thing that decides that is the school system. some schools have a policy that states that if a child misses X amount of days they lose their credits or in elementary and middle school cases will do summer school or be held back to make up for it. also another playing factor is their grades, as long as they can prearrange the absense and do the work early or they have good grades and it wont matter then they should pass and wont have to make it up.
