My laptop is broken

It has a disk error on boot up. It says “Disk error. Press any key to continue” I press a key and that same text re-appears. Is the HD toast?

It does make noises when I press a key, but does nothing. Key Beeps if I depress a button for any length of time obviously. But the actual HD sounds a bit funny. My inclination is that I fried the poor thing.

Yikes. You can’t get into setup at all? Usually it’s delete or one of the F keys to get into setup. If you can’t get into setup, then it sounds like a motherboard problem, and not a HD problem. If you just can’t boot windows, then you probably have a corrupt sector on your HD where there were some very important windows files.

Have you tried a system recovery
Hold down F11 key while you press on button
then some options should pop up
Will your computer allow you to get that far?

No. I think I will just upgrade it altogether. It is unfortunate that I will lose some songs and projects. I will create new ones in time! Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone. I think I am going to just lay it to rest. I am sending it to someone who may be able to recover it so I still have some hope!

Thats too bad they are not cheap to buy or fix, but you have probably lost some memory, I had a similar problem and ended up replacing a memory card and that fixed it, of course I lost a bit of stuff, but managed to save stuff, and it took forever to reload all the software etc…
Good luck
:)

Thargor: All is not lost. Just because your laptop won’t boot doesn’t mean that all of your data is lost. Even if parts of the hard drive are corrupted, there is probably still plenty of your data that you could recover.
