Ok so help.com is cutting back…
Can you believe this? We cannot load new avatars and what’s up with the automatic updates?
Apparently, CBS has disabled these functions to save space on their server and to prevent lag…
(Info courtesy of Samm; thanks again.)
Ugh, this is not looking good, folks. (Excuse me if this post has already been posted, if so
did anyone come to any resolutions? I’d like to change my avatar sometime in the future. I have the body
of a rifle if you haven’t noticed.)

Help.com has been loading really slow for me for a while.
Yes, we have been complaining to each other, but there is no expectation that anything will be done to fix the problems. We are just making the best of the site the way it is.
Good to see you here, though.
i agree help.com awesome. but like i couldn’t even read your post just now because the automatic updates have been disabled.
and aren’t you new ppl tired of only having letters as your profile pics?
lol, so there’s nothing that can be done?
That’s not good. It’s good to see you too, C-eek.
LOL Srinh, as many times as I’ve looked at that avatar, if you hadn’t brought it to my attention, I wouldn’t have noticed your “rifle body”.
As for your post: wow did you choose the wrong day to get me on this subject. I’ve spent practically all day trying to get a simple, informative post up. Granted, it’s a bit long. But it’s loaded valuable links. We apparently can have 100 virtual mile long posts regarding jockey straps and tampons, but it seems it’s darn near impossible to get something of potential value up. AARRGGHH !!!
You have to refresh the page after each reply you make.
i saw that link, Aries. It was quite amazing. i even went to link for AZ. I had no idea we had 15 counties here. :)

Thanks Srinh. But for the life of me, I can’t seem to get the 2nd half up - the one with the remaining states.
i wanted to change my avatar from a stoner to a workin chick to celebrate my new job, and it wouldn’t let me upload. THAT”S GAY!!!

it’s not so bad. it works well enough. :)

I spose’ we’re now on our way to true anonymity. :)

I’m glad you like it. :) There’s a little meaning behind it. Here’s the link if you’re curious to know, http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-n…
In a phone conversation with a friend of mine this morning, I was reminded of my old Yahoo! Answers days. Used to go there a lot to do what I now do in here. Nice thing about helping out in there is that you get to “pick your spots”, so to speak, since everything is categorized. Would be nice if the same happened in here.
Srinh, I posted about the problem with auto-scroll being disabled weeks ago, maybe months ago. The company has apparently abandoned this site.. again!
But we continue to help.
o my goodness, i’ve been out of the loop!
They have to come around. i can understand the autoscroll being disabled. Pushing f5, is not such a bother.
But the avatars really should be enabled, again. It’s the probably the most tangible sense of individuality we have on here. :)

Now I am going to make you laugh. I never knew that I could hit the F5 key to refresh. They really did not have computers when I went to school. lol
actually it is (sigh), i can now truly appreciate teh old days of auto-scroll… and those times when we had our choice of soooo many different avatars. ah, the small luxuries.
now i can easily empathize with the Russians, as to when they had the severe shortage of TP. :(

Hmm, is the new info going to go up on a website, ARies? I’m not familiar with the old Yahoo….

No kidding. When I went back to college several years ago to get my degree, I did not have a computer at home. I went to a writers’ lab and asked if they had an electric typewriter. The clerk gave me a little smile and sent me to the library, where they had two old typewriters in storage. I almost quit school that day. Fortunately, my English professor took pity on me and took me back to the lab and taught me the basics. Bless that young man. He dragged me kicking and screaming into the computer age.
an electric typewriter? o lol. but you know what? i love those things. my dad’s got a 1930’s model (rough estimate) sitting in his study. last time i visited home, i wanted to steal it but…it would’ve caused an unsightly bulge.
…… i’m going to bed, i have to get up in 6 hours. It was good catching up.
If they’re trying to cut down on lag, they’re failing big time. It’s still been just as slow. I think they’re just getting lazy at upkeeping the site. ;)
It is sad. With the internet so large, it amazing that a site like this is unique and so important.
The phone companies here sponsor a free councilling hotline. When a new telco came in, they set up a free youth councilling hotline, as the positive good will generated by the firsts sponsorship was so great. CBS should realise they are saving peoples lives on a daily basis, and if it fixes this site, should cash in on that great publicity.
They are sitting on a goodwill goldmine here, and they are letting it rust. ( terrible mixed metaphor there, but its late so blahhh)
So, whats the new avatar you got lined up?

Sure, and if they marketed it properly, advertising could make it a money-maker, too. The sponsored link ads between the post and the replies, do not detract from the content of the post one little bit. In fact, like the one I see on this page, they often make me chuckle.

Chunky, that’s a great comment you’ve made. But is CBS into philanthrophy? It seems probable that they are just feeling lazy, like Grace had mentioned. You brought some interesting topics to the discussion, thank you. And ah, my avatar. Just of me i spose’, it feels genuine. It motivates me to save face, i spose. lol.
C-eek, you really think help.com could make money? It’s strange, there was another poster on here who mentioned that they knew some good tips to make it something, comparable to facebook. Hmm, a neurotic face-book. It could work!

It just occurred to me: I’m strolling around in here with a male sheep’s head - so what the heck have you got to complain about? LOL !!!

aha, congrats on your new job. now what kind of uniform will you be wearing as a working chick? aprons are sex-ah. i thinks its got something to do with those deep pockets. ?
i empathize. I was looking forward to wearing in my avatars, t’shirts, that represent each day of the week, (aka stages of carefully crafted binge drinking). These shirts will feature each day of a regular work week. Monday- Friday. As the week progresses the words printed on the shirt, will offer a glimpse into my inner life. Examples?
Monday = The word is easily read. Straight and Clear block letters. Sober: “Let’s get a fresh start, yipee!”
Tuesday = Fuzzy but still easily read. Feeling a lil’ tipsy: “Hey it was a hard day at work…we ran out of mocha creamer. I cannot work under these conditions!”
Wednesday = Letters are off centered and unfocused. Why?: “Yes..so that half a bottle of rum was a little much. But it’s not called hump day for nothing, celebration…wheeee!”
Friday = The word is doubled, off-centered, fuzzy and unreadable. Why? “How much have i had to drink?..hmm…i should stop, nooo…it wasn’t me who peed in the oven…and no, i dont know why i have Crisco on my ***.”
As to the absence of Sat. & Sun. shirts. It’s fitting since these days are usually missing from memory, altogether.
I spose for these, i’ll just have an avatar of a blue cut-out against a black silhouette. Sigh, where does the time go, anyways?
Note: Thursday’s shirt is probably missing because I had to use it to clean up Wed’s mess and it was still in the dryer at the time.
well..you could do what i did and upload your picture to photobucket, then just post the html for the image on your profile.
it’s free. :/
well because of you. i can now change my avatar. i am greatly appreciative.
i hope it helped. :/
lol.
i don’t think the search works either.
i can’t find any posts.
too many parts are falling off.
the site needs some tune-ups.
i’ll try photobucket tomorrow and change up my style. ^.^
things seem to be getting worse with the avarts, but this is a help site…..soooo lets focus on helping others and not worrying about the small things
of course.
but if one can’t get wrapped up around the axle, then few would ever travel.
um, what did that mean? I’m not sure.
