technology help: I need a keyboard and I don’t know anything! - Help.com

I need a keyboard and I don’t know anything!

I have recently started playing games on my PC, and my keyboard is, to put it nicely, “teh suck.”
The function keys are all programmed to start programs like “help” and Word, and it is impossible to program to do nothing. If they’re not programmed and I press them it asks them if I want to program to do something. It’s incredibly annoying. So I can’t use them in-game because they will minimize it (ARG.)
It works fine, and it’s a really nice basic one for typing etc, but it’s so annoying for gaming that I am just going to get a new one.

So I needed some feedback on what keyboard I should get. I need something that is (preferably) wireless, not too big, and not too fancy. (I don’t want anything like the logitech g19.)
But something where the function keys work and it has is substantial and will last a long time, but not with cheap or bulky feel.

Please let me know what you think, what your past keyboards have been like, etc. Thanks!!

LOL!
you have Dr. Who as your avatar and you suck at tech stuff ;)
Well, its the program settings of your keyboard.
Its a software problem and not a hardware one…
You have to go to your control panel and the keyboard option and then set it to the basic functions or standard functions…
You may have another program as well for that so you will have to find it and set it…
Im quite sure its software and the answer is no to buy a new keyboard!

Uh, no. Logitech makes their keyboards pre-programmed, and there is no way to re-program them. Believe me, I have tried everything to change them and it will not work.
Anyways, the keyboard settings in the control panel forward me to the software, which does not allow the buttons to be programmed for nothing.
If I touch any of them, it will minimize anything I have up.

So I am getting a new keyboard and it won’t be logitech.
I checked on their other drivers and all the ones I have seen all have the function buttons set up like this.

I would just like to know other people’s opinions on keyboards, becuase I am truly sick of the one I have now.

Nah, default is the setting I have now.
And I’ve said that no matter what setting I give them, they will either start a program or ask me if I want to program them to start a program. Either way, they minimize everything and it is ridiculously annoying.

The software is just crap, I have accepted this.

i like the really simple keyboards. no extra keys, no gimmicks, just plain simple 10$ keyboards.
i even sometimes remove the windows buttons when they annoy me.

wireless keyboards are problematic because they almost always come with extra crap, and the cheap one’s battery runs out fast and is unreliable.
and they sometimes lag too, which is bad for gaming, (i don’t know about very new ones, i haven’t checked recently)

why do you want it to look fancy?
there are things like custom designed keyboard panels for simple keyboards,
or simple keyboards with cool designs.
