My friend had his total knee replaced two weeks ago
and now every time he tries to sleep he is suddenly woken up by a jerking movement in his whole body. What do you think this could be? He’s losing so much sleep.

Absolutely! Get him to a doctor immedietly. o.O This should be his first reaction after having complications because of a surgery!
Yea, I told him that. I thought maybe it could be from the new medication he is taken. He takes Percocet 10/325mg tablets every 4 hours
We’re not pharmacists, we can’t judge his reactions to medication. =S
Yes, hurry and see a doctor about this. They may investigate and find that he/she has a nerve problem in their leg, I don’t know.
Oh, I didn’t thing of that Genesis721. A never problem makes so much sense. Maybe they damaged one of his nerves when they gave him a spinal? You think?
Anything is possible and that is up to a medical doctor to investigate. They should get help as soon as time permits. They shouldn’t have to suffer as much as they are. So get help right away.
I had surgery v recently and during my recovery period I had many incidences of being woken with sudden jerking movements in my whole body - was a horrible feeling and I felt anxious about it, but it did subside over time. Maybe it’s a bodily reaction to surgery/anaesthesia ??
If it continues or he is really anxious about it then maybe he should see a doc
Thanks island I think that could be the case. He has a nurse that comes to the house and she checks his vitals and all and she is not too concerned about it. She said the same think you did that it was part of the surgery and it will go away.
Hope he’ll be ok - I’m sure he will
Thanks everyone for your great replies. I’m sure he’ll be fine. I’ll have to keep my eyes on him until he’s 100% back on his feet. What are friends for?
You’re being a good friend to him -I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.
I also hope everything will be okay. He will be back on his feet in no time. I am sure your friend will appreciate all of your concern.
Thank you so much guys. I will be there just like he will be there.
I’m thinking it could be a nice thing to be woken up by a jerking movement… I guess it depends whose doing the jerking.
lol…..oh I new I could depend on you, Dr Ralph, for a good laugh.
I’m a “completely not” trained doctor! So have no fear. I think his problem is!
~Heart Problems!~
That is all!
But overall he probably should see a “professional” doctor yes?

Thanks SirTannen
I think maybe he should go to the doctor and make sure its nothing serious. If not maybe his doctor will give him something to help him sleep .

Oh, help him with his medical problem. I wonder what his medical problem is?
Its a nerve ending issue, this can take up to 6 months to fix itself. If it becomes a truly horrible problem there is medication used to treat nerve ending problems such as amittriptyline.

Gee, karen, where have you been? Thanks so much. I really do appreciate your input. I will let him know of this. Thanks again. Are you a doctor?
I wish i had trained as one, i keep my hand in. Plus my late brother had the same problem and i have also used this medication for the same issue.

You’re wise anonymous. He has been getting acupuncture and message therapy and that seems to be helping a great deal. Where were you several weeks ago? I could have used your wonderful advise. Thanks a bunch.
No hassle, thanks for the nice comment and I hope your friend is well soon. God Bless!

Thanks swood670, that’s nice of you. He is, thank you again. We were worried there for a while, but with the help of others, we made it through.
Has his doctor looked into the possibility that the new knee may be pressing against a nerve?

Yes, it was all the swelling. It’s down now, and he feels 75% better then before.
Wonderful!
