How do you quickly euthanize a suffering cat?

I saw a cat hit by a car today. It spent the last few minutes of it’s life convulsing and spitting up blood. There was really no way to save it.

I thought about trying to break it’s neck, but I wasn’t sure if that would kill it, or just give it another injury to suffer through. What could I have done?

You should have taken it to a vet, fropped it in and said it wasn’t yours but that you rescued it from the road that way the vet would decide what the best action was and you would not get a bill for it.
As it is though, after, there is not much you can do now, so try and put it out of your mind because you will only depress yourself with guilt.

the vet option wouldn’t have worked. i don’t have a car myself and i don’t think anyone would appreciate me taking broken blood-spitting cat on a bus. even with a car, i wouldn’t have gotten to my regular vet in time, and they aren’t open on sundays.
