I have been thinking about you. I am sorry you had a rough freshman year, but don’t let it stop you from being all you can be in your sophmore year. If you put in some work, you will be rewarded.

I found a letter I wrote to myself at the beginning of the year and when I read it the other day I cried. It’s…incredible how much growing up I was forced to do this year. All for the best, I guess.

My memories of my high school years have dimmed a bit, but I remember feeling as though I had very suddenly become responsible for myself. My parents expected me to be able to handle my school work and family obligations without much guidance, which was a big surprise to me after a childhood filled with adult input. It was a lot to handle and I had just been “discovered” by the boys, which complicated my life to the max. My grades dropped and I wondered how I would make it through high school. I managed to pull myself together during my sophomore year and my grades came back up to my expectations. Strangely, my parents did not seem to notice. I learned to do it for myself, which is what adults do.

I often look at my friends list to see who is available to help on a post, but your little green light is never shining. I have wondered what happened to you.

You were born with a sweet spirit and you can’t change that, but you can certainly choose any path at this point in your life. I remember how nicely you replied to those who were seeking help here. You are a good, thoughtful, writer. I can see that you are helping here again, already.
