How stupid is it to not have a license (in college)?

For whatever dumb reason, I never got my license. Now, I’m about to go off to an urban college, where I won’t need a car / aren’t planning on getting one.

Anyway, I’m about to take the test, but I’m wondering if maybe I should just wait until I’m actually going to get a car (4-5 years from now.) Apparently you HAVE to get insurance when you get your license. I don’t really plan on driving much this summer, so paying $600 to use a family member’s car for 2 months seems like a waste.

I guess I could get a ID card that just has my name and such, but that seems kind of embarrassing. Any thoughts?
