so can you tell me what it means when it has to do with a break up?

for example i told my ex that the break should be permanent and he said that he’s given up reason for reality

sounds like he agrees.. he’s giving up trying to reason around it so the reality is you 2 r broken up.

it might mean that he have given up trying to look for reasons in everything that happens.
which would mean in your case, that he does not understand why your breaking up,
and he doesn’t care to try to understand anymore.
because he has given it up.
