Here my opinion:
First of all, one’s intelligence can be measured in a number of factors:
Social intelligence - How well you integrate with other people, make exchanges and co_operate
Emotional intelligence - How well you deal with your issues and subconscience, and therefore how well you can handle an emotional conection with another human being
Factual intelligence - How well your brain can handle abstract concepts, things learnt at school, needed for a work etc
Factual intelligence is highly regarded in our western society because it produces busy workers who can keep our economy going. Social intelligence, comes automatically from working amongst groups of people. So the second one is less harped upon because in our time HAPPINESS = WORK, not love or self-awareness.
You can therefore be intelligent on the work front but really dumb in relationships, i.e. quickly divorcing, sleeping around etc
being dumb emotionally is well revered, because governments subliminally want a group of happy go lucky workers who don’t have time for anything else.
This is a system that has a downward spiral, but luckily psychotherapy is advancing, reminding people it is ok to feel emotions and to feel them honestly, while searching inwardly for answers as well. So hopefully, more and more people are realising the benefits of self awareness, which will counteract todays brainless society
