Bad idea. I know its not what you want to hear, but bad idea. I almost came completely anorexic, and caught myself. Eating disorders are a quick fix, but they can also kill you.

NOOO! Don’t do it!! :(
You could die! Think about your family and all the people who loves you.
You can do exercise, or trying to eat just fruit / vegetables, but keep it sane :)

good luck

WHY does everyone seem to think that the only way to lose weight is to go on some crazy diet and exercise loads, or develop an eating disorder?

Why exactly do you “need” to lose weight fast?
Really think about it, do you actually need to?

Basically i was saying i almost did that, and saved myself just in time. Don’t do it, it’s a quickfix that can kill you. It looks appealing, but its a nightmare.

So there’s no particular event coming up that you want to be skinny for? No deadline?

If that’s the case do it healthily and properly, that way the weight will stay off.
Bulimia doesn’t just mean puking up your meal, it involved having a really messed up relationship with food, binging in huge amounts then feeling such a guilt that you feel the need to starve, over-exercise or puke. Until the next binge.
It rarely results in weight loss.

Just cut down a bit, be a bit more active and the weight will drop off. You don’t need to go to extremes you’ll just end up back on square one.

try walking for fifteen minutes before you eat breakfast, it helps. Moderate exercise and less junk food makes a world of difference. An eating disorder will make your life worse than if you weighed as much as the earth.

That’s not stupid! In fact, it’s very common. I used to the exact same thing. Eat away the pain. Sounds like you need to find some positive way to channel your feelings. Pick a hobby, maybe even one to help you lose weight, and use it to channel them in a positive way.

Okay I’m going to tell you something now in the faint hope it might alter your view on this whole eating thing.

I got chubby when I was going through a really stressful and upsetting time. I was comfort eating. I am like you in that I seem to always have to be in self-destruct mode in some way, and I was abusing my body by eating too much junk.

I soon realized I’d got bigger and was horrified with myself, so began a crash diet that basically started off as light, healthy meals and soon turned to just fruit and veg and water until I was really starving myself. I got carried away, it was like once I’d started, I thought ‘hey, i can do this, I’m going to keep losing until I’m really skinny’

I would fast for days then binge in the middle of the night. I was so terrified of putting the weight back on that I started puking it back up. I dropped to six and a half stone and I’ve never felt more ugly, depressed and horrible as I did then.

My periods stopped, I was sent to the doctor and he said that luckily they had caught it in the early stages, before it turned into an eating disorder. I realised what I was doing was stupid and I grew out of it.

Now I eat a balanced diet with occasional treats and I am generally quite active. To be active you don’t need to be a gym freak, you just need to have hobbies and these also serve as distractions from food. Even shopping is exercise, just being up and moving and busy some of the day counts.

When I look back on my diet days I just think, what a waste of time and a waste of my life. It’s honestly not worth it, all I got from doing it was stomach cramps and a low self-esteem.

The sooner you accept yourself as you are, the sooner you’ll be able to make positive changes.

1. you believe you need to lose weight
2. you feel overwhelmed at the moment and feel that becoming bulimic is the only solution

Feel free to share with us more about what has lead you to want to lose weight, and how you feel becoming bulimic is the only alternative.

I don’t know if this is the case for you so I won’t accuse you but there are a vast number of girls out there that say this kind of thing for attention

“everyone says I’ve lost weight but I think I’m fat”
“I want to become bulimic”
I hear those things a lot.

I need to know now, are you honestly seriously having issues with food or is this a bit of an ‘everyone feel sorry for me and worry about me’ stunt?

My role is just to act like a mirror, so I’m not evaluating you :), I’m just allowing you to see a reflection of yourself based exactly on what you’re telling me.

So it sounds as if you would like to change how you value yourself. In what way would you like to change your view of yourself?

(Please don’t worry about something sounding bad. Everyone has a right to have feelings and everyone deserves to feel loved.)

So from what you’re saying you want him to like you for how you look, but then you’re goal is to feel loved. It seems that you’re saying that he can’t possibly love you unless you feel that you look good enough.

I just want to add that there are actually incredibly attractive guys out there who love their partners no matter if their partners are large, skinny, disproportionate, covered in some skin condition, ill, have a few mustache hairs that happened to grow etc. (I’m really not kidding).

That is a very poor choice to make. You dont have the will power to diet and exercise? Just do it! Its not as hard as you think it is. Im not saying you have to do a lot but you can at least try a little bit if your unhappy in your current state, but most people are unhappy with themselves so its not like your alone. Bulimia causes you to have a horrible appearance and ruins your teeth also from your stomach acids. All you need to do is be more comfortable with yourself as you are and see how you think you would like to be in your mind then try to become it through healthy methods. Just eat smaller meals, like half sized and do it more often in a way that your eating the same amount as normal or less because it keeps your metabolism going. Starving yourself will slow your metabolism and actually make you gain weight more easily. *hugs* Your not bad or anything. :)

Oh lordy. There used to be a girl on this site named Courty. She started writing here because she was in a psychiatric hospital for an eating disorder. She was, I think 70 pounds at her worst and couldn’t walk across the room. If that wasn’t enough, the strain on her heart was so tremendous, she actually had a cardiac arrest at 20 years old. If she were here, she would regale you with all the stories of how horrible that part of her life was and how it wasn’t worth it. She had her own reasons for hurting herself in that way, but regardless of what yours are, I PROMISE you, it is NOT worth it. If you’re doing it to feel “healthier”, then you will definitely NOT be. If you are doing it to feel more attractive, then guess what? You can’t attract anyone while lying in a hospital bed. It seems easy now, but sadly, that’s where this goes. Ultimately, you will be much happier being healthy and staying at your current weight than spending the rest of your life sick and regretting what you did to yourself.

It’s not really your fault.
Culture, friends, family, media, advertising etc. influence the thoughts we have and what we value.
Where do you think your belief about needing to look attractive came from?

In history, pretty much up until this last century, being really large and round was considered the ideal. So beauty standards are really influenced by culture.

The power you have is in recognizing that you are immersed in just one culture at the moment, but it’s not THE culture of all time, just one that exists out of the many cultures on the planet.

Anyways, lets look for other ways to value yourself. One way to do this is to think back, and tell us about 3 or more instances in which you felt really proud about something that you did.

Did you know that our beliefs are actually really powerful.
If you believe that you are a genius, you can actually raise your score by a few letter grades. If you believe the opposite, then you can actually decrease your score by a few letter grades.

Anyways, what leads you to believe that you will fail at stuff you try?

Here’s a different perspective:
If you try things out the same way, then the same things may happen.
If you try things out a different way, then different things may happen.

How can you try things out in different ways now to get different results?
What new beliefs would you like to have about yourself?

Try believing those beliefs for a week and see what happens differently in your life.

Hey when you go on a sensible diet, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, getting quality protein like salmon, eggs, turkey breast, and eating complex carbs like whole grain bread, cereal, rice you will actually start to get healthy while you naturally slim down. You need to give yourself time to loose weight… Like if you 40 lbs, overweight, give yourself a year to slim down… You also have to accept the fact that no diet works unless you exercise .. Try power walking, swimming, biking, hiking, in other words start living again and move at least 30 minutes, 4-5 times a week.. I know you would like to loose without exercise, but to loose it and keep it off you need to move.. You will probably really enjoy it once you break your inertia.. Inertia is once a body is at rest it tends to stay at rest, while a body in motion tends to stay in motion..Forget bulmia.. That is a unhealthy way to go down in weight and health.. You want to be a healthy thin person not a sickly thin, and frail person.. Make sure you take a multi vitimin, mineral, and get calcium and magnesium for you bones and heart.. Good luck

For those of who believe in, God…He gave us these bodies, we have this one life. Why hurt yourself as Anon said. No point to do it. If you seriously take 3 months to eat healthy, which there are plenty of wonderful healthy foods out there, you will se a huge difference. how hard is it to walk a mile outside with your family or friends?? play softball or something. Do a challenge between your family and freinds and give a prize at the end, like biggest loser style

one time i visited this house for people who had brain problems or accidents that impaired their brains. and we met this one woman who was 80 years old. when she was 16 she had become bluemic and would throw up a lot. this caused her to rupture a vein in her brain. this caused her to lose most of her memory and cost her living her life like a normal person. Eating disorders ruin bodies and lives. Don’t do it.

These things are serious and when you have someone that self conscious, which makes you depressed, ya it comes down to those measures. That is why they ame on here, to see what people had to say about it.

Perhaps you are right, I may have made an error in judgment. But when someone is saying they’re “considering” becoming bulimic it implies that they’re making an informed decision, rather than succumbing to a disorder in the brain.

Why would your brain tell you that a disorder will help you? That’s irony, and it’s funny.

My goal was that laughing would put the ridiculousness of choosing to become bulimic in perspective. Hopefully she will see that.

Because you hear the stories of people who lost weight using it, and you discard the consequences, and only think about the ‘benefits’. its not always a disorder to the people who do it. Its just a way to lose weight.

Or she’ll get self concious about it and decide she needs to do it no matter what.

Either way.

You don’t “use bulimia”. It’s a disorder. Sure models go and eat somewhere then throw it all up. But that isn’t respectable at all. It’s respectable to order something light and civil tell the person that your not hungry.

If you don’t eat anything your body becomes malnourished. Your brain doesn’t function properly, it can cause hallucinations and delirium. Not to mention the permanent health defects when growing.

Quantum. think of this. if you were over weight, you would be fu**** miserable, right? You would look at the hollywood stars and be like “man, i want to be that skinny and pretty! They have money, relationships and the world loves them!” And then, magazine are thrown in our faces with models who weigh 3 pounds soaking wet.

It is what the world views, its all moralistics. They want to look like that so they do not get made fun of.

So ya, people can def consider going belemic if it the easy and fastest way to get skinny.

You need to chill out, people come on here not to get made fun of but for HELP!!!!

ITS A DISORDER!!!!!

Author do let this person mislead you. Bulimia is a disorder and it’s common knowledge. Anyone who denies this obviously hasn’t seen the damage it causes both physically and mentally. Go google Bulimia victims. People have died.

See? By laughing I helped you see how absurd choosing bulimia really is.

It’s clear that you aren’t getting the proper perspective. Bulimia is like a disease, and you really don’t want to be “sick”. You want something else, specifically, I’m not sure what.

Perhaps you are a model and feel that this would help your career. It wouldn’t, especially since you sound susceptible to an extreme case of this disorder (you don’t care if it’s sick).

Whatever the reason, it’s better for you to stay thin with your own willpower.

But I’m supporting that view, that bulimia is a mistake. Whether she accepts that consciously is irrelevant. In her mind she will register that bulimia has been looked down upon.

Okay that I can help with. I worked at fitness depot for two years and have spent countless hours learning both how to eat properly and train my body. I’m guessing you don’t have the gall to start exercising, so we need to get you on a strict diet. And you need support from friends. Ask them to help you.

There are many ways you can do this and the most effective I think would be setting up a punishment system. Every week you stay on your diet put away ten dollars saved in food money. Tell your friends that if you don’t stay on your diet every day for x number of months than you will give them what’s left. And if you stay on course you get to spend two hundred dollars shopping for new clothes!

It’s totally not stupid, except for the bulimic part.

This is going to sound stupid, but ever since I dated an overweight girl, I’ve wanted to get fat. And last year I did! Honest I weigh over 200lbs. I’m 6′0 and most of my life I weighed 170, 160 now I weigh 210 or something…But I’ve had enough, it was fun while it lasted but this summer I’m going to get in the best shape of my life.

Your obviously missing the point of what I said, and insulting me to no end(gain).

By laughing (showing her that I find choosing bulimia ridiculous) and then offering advice I tell her that she’s considering a mistake, I care, and want to help. I’m not being a jerk.

Well, as I said before, there was a chance I was making a mistake. But taking in that she said she’s considering it, chances are laughing would have a positive effect. That’s because she hasn’t made the decision, and my response is that would be a mistake. Her mind will register that response and shift to understanding that viewpoint slightly. It’s an unconscious thing, just like advertising and I’m the medicine. Whether she feels insulted is not my fault because I’m laughing with her. I’m laughing at how crazy it is to want to have a disorder, and that she has been driving to this decision through social injustice.

Ultimately all we have are chances at having the intended effect when talking to people. No matter how much information we have gathered on an individual situation, we cannot know what the other thinks, or how he/she will react. This chance was a good one.

Is she my patient? No, she’s a blogger. There’s a very big difference there. Psychiatrists have specific ethical guidelines they must follow. Otherwise they loose their license.

And on top of that, in this case, I think quite a few would.

Unsuscribing? Well if it makes you feel like your doing something beneficial by turning my clearly positive responses into a negative, you go right a head. The author didn’t start balling her eyes out because I find the prospect of someone choosing to get a disorder ironic and hilarious.

She agreed, and said it sounds sick!

But you be the better woman and leave. See if I care.

Go for it then.

Dont let the fact you could kill yourself, have your teeth start falling out, and not being able to stop once you get to a weight you like and then go to far and die from being to skinny or from malnutrition.

but yeah dont let those things stand in your way of taking the easy way out aposed to actually eating healthy foods and working out and not even just working out hard I mean just burning some more calaries in a day besides stuffing your face and thinking about how fat you are and wanting the quick fix.

try walking, running, ya know being active. Getting thin the right way instead of the stupidest way on earth.

Bulemia does work… I was bulemic for about 1 yr. It was great at first. I lost weight very quickly and started getting the body I always wanted. I’m an oddity because I am a male. Most people don’t realize that men can have eating disorders as well, so no one really thought twice about my weightloss. In the beginning I would only throw up one meal a day, maybe two if it was something really fattening. I had no problem getting myself to throw up and things were going well. Hell, the stomach acid even whitened my teeth a little bit. More and more I found myself throwing up more and more and binging all the time. I was constantly lathargic and had NO energy. I am a ballet dancer and during this time, I found myself unable to do the simplest of movements. Yeah, I looked good, but I couldn’t stay awake for more than 8 hrs a day and simple tasks became a feat. In order to continue with the dance company I was with I had to start eating again. I couldn’t keep it up anymore. My teeth didn’t rot out or whither away or anything, but I developed an extreme sensitivity to hot and cold that was excruciating. My hair never fell out. And most of the horrible things they say never became as extreme as they say, BUT the biggest thing is that it is not sustainable. You have to have the will power of a GOD to be anorexic or bulemic. It takes way more effort than you would realize.

In the end, I started eating slightly more, just enough to get by and I began to gain weight back. Slowly I began eating more and more and I gained more and more weight. I watched the food I ate and ate very healthy and balanced, but I still kept gaining weight. I never became super fat, but I ended up weighing more than I had originally by 25 lbs.

Yes, bulemia does work, but it doesn’t work forever. just like anorexia. it can’t be sustained forever and you will eventually have to stop throwing up, and when you do, you will put yourself in a much worse position than you already are. I look back at the way I looked before I was bulemic and I wish I was that skinny again.

Well if your not a ‘troll’ then my first comment still stands. If you think being a sickly stick thin person WHO HAS A DISEASE(since bulimia IS a disease) without any teeth is sexier then a healthy person disease free with nice teeth then bulimia is for you.

Get off your *** and work out. be healthier, not stupider.
