Please help, my desktop changed; WARNING!

then descriptions of security problem BS, without my doing so.

Gateway Tablet PC
I can’t open the task manager, I try to access my Add/Remove Programs, but it won’t let me, but it let’s me change anything else. It says that my win-whatever is infected. I had problems with AntivirusPro 2009 but I just deleted the process so it wouldn’t bother me every time I went on the computer. My firefox had been acting up lately, redirecting me every time I tried to access a website through google. The icons appearing are a yellow and black striped shield and a red shield with an X on it. Both will not stop with the stupid alerts; you must activate antispyware jargon. It’s seriously creepy! It duplicates the tablet options icon 10+ times. Is there any way to save my computer? I have cut off all connections with the internet on it. I am unsure of whether or not I’m able to download as I can’t even access firefox.

that sounds like a virus.

if you really want to ’save’ it, you have to run a -good- virus program externally - you can’t install a new one on your pc now, because - especially if you can’t access add/remove software and such, chances are it’ll get altered before you get a chance to run it.

my advice would be : make a backup of all the files you want to keep, on a disk or memory stick - make sure you scan them before putting them back afterwards. then reinstall windows, after a good old fashioned format.

first thing to do on a fresh OS is install good antivirus software. unless you like your pc acting up like yours is now, viruses are a serious threat on the internet.

no recovery, do a full format.

it sounds like you installed all kind of unpopular untrustworthy spyware removers and anti viruses, which i assume are the cause to your problem, and probably are the virus themselves.

be more choosy when you surf the web and don’t click on anything that pops up.

after formatting the hard drives and installing the OS again,
update it to the latest service pack and security updates,
then download and install AVG.
don’t download any other crap.
there are several more good programs to protect your computer, but they are not always needed, and try consulting with people before you install one of them.

I’m also having the same problem; however, mine is a bit more serious. After my computer was infected my computer restarted and ver since I cannot get on to my desktop. Everytime i log in, it reboots my computer.

and after reboot something comes up and says
“procedure entry point symsetsymwithaddr64…..”

advice?

boot it in safe mode (hold F8 when it boots) - hopefully this should get you on your desktop - it skips a whole lot of driver-sets and only operates on a minimal level, however it should be enough to access your files and make a backup. (remember to scan those files before putting them back!)

then reboot with an OS disk in your dvd drive - it should boot from that, otherwise you’ll have to get into your bios and make sure it does - from there on, reinstall windows, preferably with a format
