Serious Computer Issues

First thing I would like to mention is I am not some dim witted fool who can’t navigate her way around a computer. So please don’t treat me like one ( I get it alot on other forum sites). Now for the problem, I own a three or four year old HP running windows XP that to date has had the same issue before but recovered by itself myseriosly(taking all our old saved files with it). Now it’s happening again and I would rather get it back working again, preferrable without wiping the HDD. See after being in storage for three or four months I tried turning it on, the computer booted, fans appearing to work fine but nothing appeared on the moniter and I got two short beeps in succesion. I looked it up and did some tinkering, mainly double checking fans and cables then removing HDD, CD-ROM and RAM then putting them back in one at a time to see if they were causing the issue. Well I narrowed it down to a possible faulty RAM. After replacing the RAM I attempted turning it on again, still nothing on the moniter but now no BIOS beep errors either. Can it be possible the motherboard has died on me as I have been told HP computers tend to do just that after roughly 3-4 years. Not sure how true that is but my boyfriends family has two old no longer working HP’s that were three years old when they encountered the exact same issue as me. Suggestions? Solutions? Or is my computer dead?

Well, I am a computer idiot who just had Windows XP crash on me on 2 computers - one a Sony Vaio and the other a Toshiba Satellite. Blogs on what you and I experienced refer to it as “The Blue Death”. Wish you better luck than we had - we ended up converting both to Linux. I realize this isn’t helpful, but thought you might want to know that it’s happening to others.

Yeah thanks for making a suggestion, it’s better thatn the big nothing I’ve got so far. Pretty sure it’s not windows though as there was no blue screen of death.

wait, thinking about this, did you try other monitors? other monitor cables? can you confirm that both the cables and the monitor work?
i just thought of this, you probably can confirm they work on other computers already though.

I don’t know if I can help getting it to work again without the HD getting whiped, but it sounds like you’re not defragmenting it enough, and believe me, HP’s need a lot of that lol :P also, if you get it back up and running again, get an external HD and put all your folders on there. That way you don’t lose everything once it happens again.

Hello,
Inside all computers is a little batter, like a watch battery, now some companies solder them in others don’t it sounds like you need to remove the battery (even just lift it up so it is no sitting in it’s socket for about 10-15 seconds and then put it back in, it sounds like a BIOS problem, now considering that this problem has occured before it could be a sympton that the motherboard is fauty, so try the above step and if it doesn’t work I will try and help diagnose your problem some other way.

p.s.

What type of monitor do you have? LCD or CRT?

sorry to say but it looks to me to be stuffed, i’d get a new hard drive, make it the master, and then move all the stuff you need of the other drives onto a portable.

oh and i have had a falty ram kill my mothebord once soooo, ya, good luck.

well you can try to run a memory test to see if its faulty RAM. memtest86.com has a good one. if your bios doesnt start, then your bios/motherboard is messed up. if you cant install an updated bios/ reinstall your own bios then your motherboard died on you and my best bet would be replacing the motherboard.
