Whenever i erase something in photoshop, it erases the background.

Even new projects and restarting the program wont do it.
Help me please.

if your bottom (background) layer is unlocked (renamed)
then whenever you erase it it will be transparent where you erased.

if you are trying to draw something, then do it on a layer different than the background. use more layers, in general.

if you are editing a photo:
never delete image data - use masks instead.
