I am writing to see if there is any utility assistance in Jacksonville Florida.
Owned my own business for six years in the mortgage industry
2007 my business went downhill due to the economic meltdown
2008 tried haning on to my business. Lost my house, my vehicle and business
2008 November moved to a house and was renting
2009 January Going to school to retrain myself in a new industry (Web Design) Husband began a job with the loan modification field.
2009 April husband had been sick with Bronchitis/Sinusitis (went to a doctor as this was the 3rd time within a six month period that husband had bronchitis/sinusitis) and was out of work for 3 days. He was fired from his job. In the State of FL this is allowable by law as it is a No Fault State.
May 2009 Rain storm that lasted six days caused the roof to leak in several places. Ceiling was brown, smelly, moldy, and had mildew. The landlord refused to fix the drywall.
It was discovered that the roof had been leaking prior to us moving in to the house during November 2009 and husband was getting sick because of the mold and mildew in the roof.
2009 June Husband has resumed working, after a two month search for a job and has stable employment with a large mortgage company locally.
Myself have begun using my web design skills and have completed several free lance web design/logo work

The reason for the utility assistance is because during 2007-2008 we had gotten behind our our bill due to the declining market and business.
November 2008 when we relocated was required to pay $800.00 to start the electricity service. We paid the $800 of which only $500.00 was actually credited to the balance and the $300.00 was placed as our deposit.
Yes, in Jacksonville FL there is only one electric company. They charge everyone $300.00 just to turn the electricity on.
We made arrangements with them to pay an additional $150.00 per month in addition to the current charges.
Everything was going well until my husband lost his job because he was out sick for 3 days.
We called JEA several times, the only electric company here and asked if they could work out another payment arrangement. We went into the office on three occasions after They refused and said that if we did not pay $914.19 by May 19, 2009. They would shut us off, And they did on May 22, 2009.
We went in to the corporate office on June 1, 2009 and asked if we paid $300.00 up front if we could have our electricty. The agent agreed to do so, but when she tried to post the payment, the system would only accept the full amount.
I am willing to pay back the money to catch us up on the electricy bill, but have been without for several weeks now. (Am on the Internet at a friends house).
If anyone can help or even can suggest an agency who could help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Molly
