I am thinking of joining the Air Force. - Help.com

I am thinking of joining the Air Force.

My dad just told me all the benefits and I would be going for nursing and I would be getting the apsolute best edcuation in the nursing world. Geting to see the world…idk I have another year to think about it because thats when I will be finishing my basics…the only real issue would be that if my boyfriend doesnt join also and quit his job and actually start persuing what he wants to do, teach. He works in a factory now that if you quit you can never get highered back on ever.

i just dont know, if he is going to be willing to do that. He said he was going to go to the air force before we started dating with his friend but then he met me and didnt go…

Do you live in canada or the us? as joining the canadian military is no walk in the park, i should know as i am training for it. Do you meet the basic requirements eg 9 pull ups without moving legs & the 2.4 Km run in 10.50 Minutes…!!
Not only that after 6 months in basic training you will be shipped off to Iraq. Just a few things to think about that i had to think about and continue to work towards.

Also if your bf doesn’t join that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. i learned the hard way that you should never hold your life back or your goals because of your bf (in my case a gf). Talk to your local requirement officer see what they have to say but i know in canada if you receive education from the military it makes your 3 year commitment turn into 6-8 years depending on the field you chose. That means 3 Years you have to stay without leaving (the only way out is in a body bag or behind bars) + 7-8 years. Now it may be different in the states however that’s what my requirement officer told me in canada. Its a big decision to make.

Do what’s best for you. Don’t depend on your boyfriend to make your life decisions. In the end, if it’s meant to work out between you and your boyfriend, it will. Don’t become stagnant because you are trying to please your boyfriend. You have to do what is right to make progress in YOUR life. Don’t worry about anybody else’s life. Do what is best for you!

:\ idk, I will have to move away from here after this year to start nursing school. Closest school is atleast 2 hours away. Up untill 30 minutes ago we had talked about him transfering to another plant and keeping his job but i just found out they wont let you transfer from one plant to another… So weather or not its to the air force I am going to have to move off some where.

Follow your dreams not anybody else’s dreams. If you do follow somebody else’s dreams, and those dreams don’t pan out, it might be too late for you to make your own dreams come true.

A guy you are dating now won’t even be remembered in 10 years. Even if he was you first. Take it from an old fart (married) who used to have this belt with a lot of notches on it (I think the wife threw it out :-). You are so SO young and you have your whole life and a goal right now…make it to the goal and the right people will be at the finish line with you.

Anybody who does not support your vision future WON’T BE IN THE FUTURE.. trust someone old who lives NOW in your future shoes.

That goes double for the armed forces, so be careful. Service is NOT about free college, it is about a service and devotion of you life (possibly ALL of your life) to your country. The Air Force’s core mission is not to provide the world with great future nurses, so make sure YOUR core mission is the same as the Air Force’s. To die for your country is a noble thing, to die to avoid student loans is just plain dumb.

It wouldnt be to avoid student loans. I have a CIB card so even if I didnt go to the air force the indians will be paying for my college, thank you very much.
