i was just given a “new” washer and dryer.

my old washer and dryer had a 4-prong plug, but the new one has a 3-prong plug, so it doesn’t work. do i need to switch the wall part, or the plug itself? and how do i go about doing so? where do i get the part?

The three prong plug is an older style. The four prong plug is the current code. I would hightly recommend NOT modifying the wall socket, as your house would then not be in compliance with the current electrical code.

You should be able to rewire the dryer with the correct four prong plug, or there may be some type of adapter available for just such an occasion. I would call an appliance store to see if there is an easy way out.

Not compatible! You can do it technically, but you have to know how to splice the two cables together, and know which of the four not to include. Long story short:

Find another way!

i did find a site that tells you how to update the dryer cord, but if i can find an adapter of some kind so i don’t have to go through all the trouble and buying the right tools, i’ll do that. thanks for the help guys.

Go in to an Electrical Shop and ask for an Adaptor…
