computer help: I have Sony VAIO VGN-NR180E laptop which install vista. - Help.com

I have Sony VAIO VGN-NR180E laptop which install vista.

I hope to install xp pro only. I already delete all partition (including sony recovery partition), I received 2 problem during install xp. I used xp cd to boot the laptop, but the cd didn’t find hard drive after booting. So, this is the 1st problem, I download the SATA driver from sony.com to solve this problem. When I reboot the laptop from xp cd, I hit F6 function key to install that driver, then xp cd can find the hard drive. Then, I click F8 function key to agree the installation, and delete all partition again, and create 2 partitions (50gb and 150gb). Then I formatted 50gb to prepare to install xp, but the normal format took me about 20HOURS to format, so, I used quick format, it took me about few seconds. After formatting, when began copying file to hard drive, I received 2nd message: Insert floppy labeled “Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver” to drive A to continue. I found few that driver from intel.com, but all of them not work. Sony.com doesn’t provide any support on this problem. The BIOS can’t change any setting of Hard Drive. I have no way to change the Hard Drive from SATA to IDE or compatible in BIOS. Please let me know any idea. Thank you very much and have a good weekend.

the bios should have a standard IDE compatibility system for non SATA ware operating systems, aslo what version of xp are you trying to install?
if it pre service pack 2 it might not like the motherboard

thank you for your replying. I already checked my BIOS, i dont’ see the option to change from SATA to IDE compatibility. Also, i tried to install Windows XP Pro with SP2. I guess Sony lock something on the motherboard, that’s why i can’t continue to install my xp. Please let me know if you have more idea. Thank you very much.

Thank you for you replying again. I tried to contact Sony company. They provide driver for that model laptop for both of xp and vista. And they told me they sure they can do it, but because this is downgrading system, i need to buy the oem xp disc from them to make sure i install the original xp in that laptop, plus they need to charge me for service charge plus shipping. So, i think that model should be compatible to install windows xp pro. Also, on Sony.com they also list the minimum requirement to install xp is Pro with Sp2 or Sp3. In this case, i am sure that model of laptop is able to install xp pro with sp2, I just dont’ know what is the trick in this case.
