What are the pros and cons of pursuing a career as a medical technologist?

I have recently graduated, cum laude, with a BS in biology and a minor in chemistry and am having trouble finding work. I would really like to work in a lab, but I’m finding that most of the advertised laboratory possitions want the canidate to have either an MT or CLS certification or degree. Since I already have a BS, I would only have to go to school for roughly 1 more year for one of these certifications…and I am strongly considering this option.

Pros, well you have alot of knowledge in medical practice, knowing which medicine does what and knowing what to give people who are feeling bad.

Cons, people may start to think you know more then you do, like being a technologist they may also think you may be good at fixing computers as well confusing it with medicine, not that you don’t know how to fix a computer but people may be alittle mixed at the term.

Think that it would be worth another year of school? I guess what I’m asking is, what being a MT is like…is the pay sufficient? Is the occupation exciting? Ect…

Yes, I believe so, being with medical practice can net good pay while being reliable to many people. Of course you should only really be into it if it’s something you really want, it is worth going to school again but just if you want to and think that you can do better.
