What exactly is a netbook capable of?

Basically I plan on using it for everything I do on my PC desktop and gaming laptop EXPECT gaming and photo/video editing.

In other words, I plan on using it for music, watching videos, writing documents, Instant Messaging, Skype calls. NO GAMING OR EDITING.

Can a netbook do all the things I listed above with ease?

pretty much yeah, the biggest limit is screen size, as far as processing power you got about as much as a pentium III to play with, fine for music and web browseing
