Please suggest a song that I can sing for my grandmother’s birthday.
I’m a girl and I’m a mezzo soprano. I want something current but the lyrics has to be meaningful.
Thanks.

100 years by 5 for fighting that would be a good one it means something it’s about life and living it and how it just kinda flys by but there are all these mile stones

I like that song but my voice ain’t can’t handle that song at all. I’d be a disaster. hehe…
Thank you all for the replies.
I’m gonna sing Miley Cyrus’ Butterfly Fly Away but I changed the lyrics so that the meaning would be more suited for a dedication to my grandmother. I’m gonna sing it during the 2nd party on the 25th.
I’m gonna play it on my guitar. I’m still struggling with the plucking. I hope I’d be ready in due time.
How did you change the lyrics? because i want to sing it for my grandmothers bday also and i cant figure out what to do for the chorus. any suggestions?

I changed the lyrics and made minor changes on the arrangement of the song. Here’s what I did:
(miley sings: You tucked me in turned out the light…)
I. While Daddy drives us from the beach
You’d sat me on your lap and teach
your grandkids about songs that rhyme
Then half way we’d fall asleep
But these memories we would keep
You were always there when we looked back
miley sings: (you have to do it all alone…)
refrain: You are our guide our shining star
Whether near or whether far
You would always keep an eye on me
And when I couldn’t sleep at night
Scared things wouldn’t turn out right
You would hold my hand and sing to me
mileys sings: (caterpillar in the tree…)
Chorus: Be not afraid of challenges
face with courage all your tests
Always know that we believe in you
You grandpa and your grandma
Are here for you so fight. Be strong
I promise you that you will always be
The joy of our family.
miley sings (tune is like the refrain: you had to do it all alone…)
Coda: To our grandparents we would say
Thanks for loving us each day
We have come this far because of you
Miley sings: chorus (caterpillar in the tree…)
Chorus: Our grandparents we love you
We stick together through and through
Always know that we thank God for you
Your grandkids and your offsprings
Will be the wind beneath your wings
We promise you that you will always be
The pride of our family.
END
The first stanza is one of my fondest memories with my grandma. We used to go to the beach every weekend.
Then the first chorus us what my grandma would tell us during the tough times.
Then the last chorus is our message/response to her.
I hope this helps and that it’s not too confusing. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.
Do you mind if i use this? I would really like to sing it for my grandma. Her 60th birthday is next week… email me back:))
