My name is Stephanie and I have a 11 year old son who has High functioning Autism/Aspergers disorder. - Help.com

My name is Stephanie and I have a 11 year old son who has High functioning Autism/Aspergers disorder.

He will be going into a public middle school this year if I cant come up with some funds to help cover the cost of a private school for kids like him.

We live South of Atlanta and there really are not many schools available to kids like him.I found one for about 17 thousand a year, and one for 25 thousand. I know that many people are going through tough times, but he is just a kid. I dont think my heart can handle the torture he has endured in the public school setting. Please, help me give my child a fair education. We , like most Americans took a huge pay cut, and also have no health coverage.. please help me, help me. If you are unsure, pray about it and let God lead you.

Thank you,
Stephanie

well i can’t give you money but i can offer advice,
first off public shcools really aren’t that bad. it just deppends on the city.
if its a low budget city it’ll be a low budget shcool.
but either way can’t you borrow the money? ask a church or somthing for help

Shauan,

Where I live, the public school isn’t that bad, as long as you are NOT a special needs child. We have been dealing with the public school system for years. They are inadequate at meeting the needs of a child like mine..
I am trying to contact people to borrow the money, or help with a scholarship..

thanks
steph

they are required by law to adaquite for ANY childs needs, but you’re right, a private shcool would be the best choice for him if you can afford it. but when it comes right down to it if the shcool system isn’t doing their job you deffinatley have a case against them. yeah a scholarship would be great for him, try talking to the board of edu. about that

I called today… they SAID they would be back in touch sometime this week, but I won’t hold my breath. They are never to quick to do anything. It’s very frustrating to say the least. If I don’t hear from them by Friday, I will show up at their office. If that doesn’t work, then maybe a call from a child-advocate lawyer will get their thumb out of their rear!!

Thanks for the replies.

ahaha, yeah the board isn’t too motivated to do much. sounds like the best way to go, the kid deserves an education, even if you have to home shcool him
