house help: I am 53 & lost my job in june 2006, now I am about to loose my house & everything in it; I don’t want a handout. - Help.com

I am 53 & lost my job in june 2006, now I am about to loose my house & everything in it; I don’t want a handout.

I want a job to pay my bills and survive. Is that too much to ask in this great country of ours? I will work 2 jobs if need be; but this is Michigan, need I say more? Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

apply for entry level positions, it sucks but it can pay the bills. also it depends what you’re trained in. Have a degree? you’ve got a lot of options, high school diploma? still a lot of options. make a resume and just get out there. The only rule I go by is dont fear rejection. you’re going to hear no a lot before you hear a yes. It’ll be worth it when you do.

We know how tough it is in Michigan.Have you thought of having a yard sale, reducing your possessions down to manageable and hitting the road to a more prosperous area of our great nation? The heating bill has to be killing you now. Don’t wait till spring.

Can you teach anything? Got any skills you can help your neighbours with? Know a second language?excell in engish?

I tutored all the way through uni… I STILL teach flute on saturday mornings… Its Really good money and worth trying out… even if you only grow by one student per week.

can you cook? put adds around your neighbourhood telling the ppl you will cook for their family one night per week for a price… you can sell it as a kind of “put your feet up” type thing so the ppl dont have to do it themselves?

can you look after kids after school? run a little art/craft group?

Grow a veggie garden (I still do! it saves a pile on vegies) you can put fruit trees in pots and they grow beautifully. Are there any lakes etc near you? 1/2 an hours fishing can give you two days worth of protein for your family if you know the right spots.

every little bit helps.

Goodluck

Dear 53
Dont lose hope, I can tell you this because I too Lost my job of 15years. My husband was diagnosed with cancer right after this disasterous event. I too am 53
and facing the same delima, month after month of where and how am I going to pay my
mortgage, not to mention utilities, car insurance , car payment. I ran through my
301 plan just to keep a roof over our head, no money left for food, however because
of my precious mother-in-law who has passed away, she taught me how to be a survior
of these type of delimas, NEVER LOSE HOPE in GOD. Every night I thank him for the gifts of this day I thank him for the smallest of these gifts to the most precious of them all my life. By the grace of God I have made it. I am like you I dont want a handout either, and I will not go to our gov. rescources as this taxes our poorly
managed system. Ive also been looking for employment and countless of times ive been rejected and with each time my pride is further damaged, then I remember GOD
is with me I will be ok. GOD has keept his promise, he has seen me through thick and thin of it all. May GODS love be ever present with you through this very dificult time. LOVE surviving in TX
