Vista help: Hello. - Help.com

Hello.

I just bought a HP laptop that comes with an “HP Webcam” built into it. I have never used Vista before, and I am having a difficult time navigating it even though I have used Windows since I was a small child! For this reason, I am having real trouble A.)Accessing the camera (i cannot get to it from the control panel….even under “Devices”) and B.) Getting the thing to work. I think that I need to download another program to make it work (dumb) but Vista “Help” is not very helpful in this matter.

Does this make ANY sense? Is there enough information here?

Just click the start icon and type in “webcam”, and viola, the program will appear.

It says something to the effect of, “Cannot connect to this capture device. Please choose another capture device under settings or close any programs currently using this device.”

The camera should turn on when you use movie maker and when you connect with cam in messenger. Hope this helps :-)

Well I guess all that’s left to do is contact HP and report faulty software?

You paid for the laptop, you need to get your monies worth. Go to the HP site and follow the instructions from there. Hope it goes well :)
