I really want to travel all around the world, but I’m too young…

I heard Iceland was a fun, safe place and that the landscape is pretty, so I thought I could get the money myself (I’m more than halfway there already.) and go to paint the landscape. I heard that Iceland was so safe, the only real problem would be the drunk people in the park at midnight, and I have enough common sense to not go to the park at midnight. Especially in another country.

But (of course) being so young, my mom said “no way”. I’ve had dreams about taking her credit card and driving to the airport and going on my own, but I am most certainly NOT doing that. Just some silly wishes I dream about, lol. I don’t have enough guts to do it, either. (Actually, I might. I just don’t want to steal from my parents.)

This is a big dream of mine, and I don’t care if I have to sleep in some farmers barn for a night, I just want to see the world and paint it in the process. Just kinda move around until the money runs out. It would be so much easier to do that if I lived in Europe, but I don’t, sooo…Lol.

Money is verrryyy tight here recently, too. So if I left now, I would be leaving my family when they need a lot of support. I just can’t do that, but my dreams are too big for my own head nowadays. My school usually goes on trips around the world during spring break, but we can’t afford it this year…

I’ve thought about all the possibilities, but traveling around the world is just too much money. I tried to get a summer job, but couldn’t. I don’t want to throw away my dreams, and I won’t. But there’s just not much I can do right now.

I need help with traveling, maybe some tips on saving money or how to get there. Anything would help, at this point…

You could try traveling the world for free. There was a television show about that.

When traveling, ask locals! They know where to get stuff cheaper (i.e. food, travel, etc). Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Every once in a while you may come across someone very generous.

I recently traveled about 400 miles away from home (DEFINITELY the furthest I’ve been away by myself, I’m only 18). I had a blast.

would u be going with sumone? if ur by yourself, i don’t know if it’s such a good idea. if ur going with sumone, u don’t need that much money and it sounds like a great adventure!!

Yes, but I asked my parents about it and they said that it was too much money for all of us to go, so then I said what about just me or two of us. But no one in my family wants to go to Iceland. ):

They have that misconception that Iceland is actually JUST ICE. It’s a very pretty place…

I thought about going with my friends, but they wouldn’t allow that either. They’re very overprotective of me. It would be so much fun to go with my friend Gabby, though.

lmao. yeah it is pretty i’m sure! greenland and iceland are opposites, quite funny.
it would be nice to go w/a friend… and like the other person said, ppl are very generous and i’ve travelled too (when i was 16) and u really don’t need much as long as u have a friend with u!!!
if u can wait to make ur parents happy, i guess u should… i mean, if ur life is good at home, then why not wait a couple yrs?? but if not… and u can’t wait… and it’s killing u… then if i were u, i’d get a friend and be off!
but u will have the same amount of fun in a couple of yrs too! u don’t want ur family to be mad at u!!

Thank you, you made a very good point in those last few sentences. :) I’m just worried about the money, because if I took a companion then it would cost MORE. It would be great to convince my parents as well, but I don’t think they’d go for it at all. ):

I could try though, lol.

check out couchsurfing.org, wwoof.org and helpex.net.

couchsurfing: ‘hosts’ let you crash on their couches for a night or two while you’re traveling

wwoof and helpex: work 3-5 hours a day (at a farm) in exchange for free meals and accommodations

… there are more sites like these on the net…

anyways, so you CAN realize your dream with just a little bit of money… you just have to be willing to put in some work and/or sleep on strangers’ couches. And also, since you can paint maybe you can sell your paintings along the way for some spending money.

it’s also my dream to travel the world. right now i’m still trying to save up for it. since i’m planning to travel for a whole year (and since i don’t have any useful skills to help me earn money along the way), it will probably take me another 2 years to save up enough money. my plan is to couchsurf and wwoof my way to and around south east asia. even though i’m enjoying my job right now, i can’t wait to embark on that adventure.

by the way, how old are you?

Not old enough to go on my own or buy a plane ticket, apparently. D:
