Does anyone know any good websites to look up info on chinese and russian customs?
They need to include how they address people and how they deal with strangers

Did you master Chinese language?
no, I dont need to know the language, im not going to china, im writing a book with a chinese characte rand a russian character, so i need to know more about their cultures to make it more realistic
Write a book?So great.
I donn’t know a website fit you.
However,Maybe I can help you cause I am a chinese.
ok, so i have a few questions i couldnt find answers to. When is it appropriate to use a chinese person’s given name, and how? How would a chinese person normally greet a foreigner? I saw that chinese people call each other (sorry if get this wrong) i think lao, would they do that to foreigners as well?
1 it’s so surprise to call a chinese person’s given name.Actually,we always emphasize the family. So,we call a person’s family name. For example,Wang is a family name,I will call a person who’s family name is wang “Xiao(means young) Wang” if the people younger than me ,I will call the person Lao(means old ) wang if the people older than me.
2 Greet.I will say hello.Sometimes maybe “Ni hao”(means how are you in chinese),and you should say Ni hao too.
3 Sometimes, call the foreigners Lao Wai(Wai means foreign)
so you guys never use your given names then?
No,if you have a close relationship with one person like good friends, you can call the person’s given name.
would a chinese person use a foreigners given name or their family name?
Sometimes will.Like, there are so many foreign companys from the USA,euro….etc in China. So,many employee in those companys would like to have a foreigners given name.
It’s convenient to use a foreigner given name for communicate with their foreign workmates.Because it’s hard for a foreigner remember a Chinese name.
In the other hand,as I know,in high school, some English teacher will ask the students to have a English name.
sorry, i wasn’t clear, would a chinese person call a foreigner by the foreigner’s family or given name?
Maybe you need define your question.
If the foreigner comes from Euro, the USA.We call his family name.
For example,we call bill gates,—gates.
ok, thank you, that was really helpful
