Do other mothers of teenagers feel depressed, unloved and totally unappreciated ?

My husband thinks I’m too sensitive- I think he’s oblivious.

Well all i can say. Is that I never felt secure enough to vent and nip at my parent like that. Kudos to you for you sacrifice.

I must admit, i’d probably be more passive aggressive if it weren’t for my grandparents and father and stepmother. :) I thank them.

That you had a family network that supported you, and gave the freedom and security to experiment and try out different roles pertaining to aggression and self expression. Life is all a hierarachy, afterall.

But then again, there is that line where teenagers should learn to NOT cross. Respect is pertinent to maturity. I’d stress that with my children or younger people.

No you’re not alone. lol. I was a terror as a teen too.

I think kids are made to make you feel that way…

I patted my 14 yr. old son on the leg the other day for doing a good job at his skateboarding competition. I felt how strong his legs were, and squeezed it and said, “OOOOOOOO, nice muscle”. He pushed my hand away and told me that it felt weird to have his mom touch him. “Don’t do that, it’s weird having my mom touch me on my leg”. I just was trying to give him a compliment. Sometimes I feel like he just dislikes me so much.

I really hope this is a stage. All he thinks about is himself, expects us to spend money on him, drive him here and there, and thinks the world revolves around him. He WILL have a job next summer. I give, give, give, and I receive nothing. I am sad.

Thanks NoGifts

Thanks NoGifts-

Is it common for them to prefer their father over their mother at this age too? Sometimes I get a little jealous. I grew up with three sisters… I don’t know boys very well!

I know exactly how you feel. My teenage daughter constantly yells at me no matter what I say and treats me like a piece of dirt on her shoe. She tells her friends awful lies about me, She says she has to do all the work aournd the house…the only things she does without moaning is eat and sleep. She cleaned her room for the first time in 6 plus months last week after years of telling her to do it. She says I am lazy and do nothing for her. I cry all the time as she has hurt me so much. My husband is no help as when I tell him, he says nothing which in turn reinforces her behavior as she takes this as a sign that she is right and I am all wrong. She is trying to turn her friends who like me into hating me. I have never done anything but love her and give her everthing I can possibly to make her life what mine was not growing up. I feel like leaving and never looking back it has gotten that bad. It is good to know I am not alone even if I know none of you…thanks
