Kind of crap writing in my opinion, but its something…
The waves broke and ran underneath her feet, curling slowly around her toes before sliding back to crash again. She did not run away shrieking, as most of her friends seemed to do, but stood there, letting the water caress her toes. She sighed and tossed her head back, letting the clean, unbroken moonlight wash over her face. She closed her eyes, listening to the roar of the waves. In the distance, a bonfire crackled away, the occasional loud voice or laugh breaking over the angry calls from the sea. She stepped deeper into the water, letting it wash over her ankles and swirl around her lower calves. Now, it seemed to be calling her in a hushed voice, enticing her to step deeper into the water, telling her that all her problems would vanish as she walked deeper. She took another step, the waves washing up against her, never knocking her over but almost pulling her into the water. She smiled, feeling a strong sense of peace again. The kind that had long since fallen away. The water now rested calmly at her thighs. Her legs tingled with the cold, but she still felt the pull, calling her deeper. She took a smaller step, ending up with the water around her waist. The waves fell against her a cold embrace. She shut her eyes again, letting the darkness fill her as she took another step, then another. She now was up to her shoulders; another step would take her swimming. She opened her eyes and took a glance back, at the bonfire, the shore that stood. She closed her eyes and looked forward again, the water calling her sweetly to join it.
“Avery? What are you doing?” A voice called, somehow reaching her over the crash of the waves. She opened her eyes and looked back, seeing a form on the beach. Instead of answering she turned around, back towards the open sea. That person represented everything that made her angry, and repulsed. The reason why the water was suddenly so enticing. She clenched her icy fists, and then opened them again, closing and shutting, then, she closed her eyes and took a breath, plunging into the icy water, and vanishing beneath the surface, the water seeming to snicker with glee. “Avery?” The voice called again, suddenly close. Avery snapped her eyes open and turned to look at the source of the voice. She was still standing on the shore, the waves crashing around her feet. “What are you doing over here? Come back to the party.” Avery opened her mouth, but closed it, finding she had nothing to say. She simply nodded, then followed her friend back to the bonfire. She glanced back at the water, listening to the voices fade as she walked up the shore.
