Does anyone know anything about panic attacks?

About a week ago I was hanging out with my 2 friends tossing the football around. There was no conversation going on so I was just thinking about life. Where Ive been, what I do,Who I know,Whats the future gonna be. Anyways after about 10 minutes I started to get depressed cuz i havent done much in my 20 years so I went inside without my friends and googled panic attacks and my heart started to beat really really fast. I ran upstairs found my mom…everything is fine now but I would like to know some things like why it would happen and how can i keep myself from going through that? Is it life threading? What should I do if I go through this again?

P.S. I cant research because I am scared that it will happen again.

Thanks

Hey, yea. I know a little about it. Actually I was about to post myself when I saw yours.

No, panic attacks are not life threatening, but they are very real. A common story is that a person having a panic attack goes to the hospital thinking they’re having a heart attack, the doctor says that there’s nothing wrong with their heart, but that doesn’t give them any comfort because what they felt was REAL.

Anyhow, my mom has panic disorder, and I’ve had a few panic attacks but the worst were when I had pneumonia.

“What should I do if I go through this again? “
There’s really not much you can do. If it happens often (I think more than once a month but I can’t really remember), then go to a psychiatrist and he’ll give you medication that WORKS. My mom never gets them anymore. If it’s as rare as it is for me, it just becomes something that can potentially happen.

As far as the research goes, it may be that that is a trigger for you, but it might also just be a coincidence. I always get an uneasy feeling before I had one, though I wouldn’t really describe it as “depressed”. It’s more like my mind catches on fire and all bad emotions go at once (anger, sadness, but mostly loneliness).

You’re welcome. I thought I was going crazy when it happened to me. If my mom hadn’t been there I don’t know what I would have done.

I have a question. Can panic attacks come in varying degrees. And also, can caffeine or exercise affect the occurences of panic attacks? Because I think I’ve been having them for the past 3 years. I thought it was a cardiac problem at first. Sometimes I feel it after physical activity, and also after drinking coffee.

Yes, yes and yes. All those things can affect panic attacks, both positive and negative. When I’m healthy, getting sleep and exercise I almost never get them.

And coffee, for me, has always made one more likely.

look into meditation, iv studied this stuff a little and it can make BIG changes to our general health and wellbeing - both mentally and physically.

there’ll always be situations in life that make us upset or even phases where we can fall into depression (it’s much easier than we may think), and so meditation can help us create an anchor within us that helps our ’self’ become more stable in the unsteady ocean of life!

hope thats helped
