I have sucessfully

got the part of playing MME. Thenardier from the musical Les Miserables, however, I’m not sure what accent to use… is it cockney?

I’d have assumed French, but I know very little about musical theater. Have a look on Youtube and see if you can find any videos of other productions.

Kind of lairy common british. Nasal. A variation on cockney would be good. Listen to the soundtrack of the 10th anniversary edition.

The other repliers, in the musical they all have english accents as it is spoken in english and the accents show the class differences.

Actually, now that you mention it I remember seeing the West End cast on some TV show performing one of the songs, and that was all done in cockney accents

i cant believe they actually replace french dialects with british ones

i wouldnt use any accent unless the other actors do that too..
otherwise it’ll be confusing..

the Thénardiers are not from Paris -they are from a small town
so it would be more like a British rural accent..

Yeah, thats what I found confusing - its in France yet most of the recordings are British.
