Dell hard drive problems

ok i have aquired a demision 8200 dell tower that had a bad hard drive,
i installed a new one but i’m having problems making the bios see the new drive.
every time i boot it comes up and says no device on IDE 1, however the drive is on channel 0
once it figures that out it boots normally but it’s set and determined to look for the drive on channel 1.
i pluged it in the exact spot the old was in so idk why it’s even thinking about the other channel.
how do i fix this?

Move the drive to a different channel, or try a different cable. It’s also possible that the drive just isn’t compatible with that motherboard. Some older motherboard can’t detect drives over a certain size, but it’s possible that can be fixed with a BIOS update. Another possibility is that the drive is bad. See if another computer can detect it.
