Will someone set me straight on politics and political pundits?

I’m entirely ignorant of politics, and just a big kumbaya softie in general, so I’m both naive and uncritical in my views. But, here they are: After long, I find myself unable to listen to “hate-mongering” personalities who, in their seeming subjective analyses, unrepentantly pour scorn on those they take issue with or find distasteful in any way. I feel much of the time that the the scorn is gratuitous, and just as much of the time, I struggle to understand how some pieces of commentary have any constructive end. This is true only of some pundits, certainly, and maybe I’m just missing the point of the supposed acrimony and finger-pointing. But as my political intuition buds, I wish to adopt viewpoints as objective as possible. I’m in need of some evenhanded reportage of the issues. Where do I turn?

I hear ya. You gotta read The Economist (weekly magazine) or check out their website at Economist.com. They are the most balanced news source out there. They are British smarties, but report on American politics a lot. They have endorsed both Republicans and Democrats in past elections. If you want a monthly source with more in-depth coverage, check out the Atlantic Monthly magazine, or their website at theatlantic.com
