Is it legal for debt collectors to come in person to your workplace and harass you?

My mother works in a retail environment at the mall and a debt collector has been talking to coworkers in an attempt to find her. The collector has not yet been in contact with her yet as she has either been off work or on break every time the collector comes. First, can a debt collector come to your workplace, and secondly, isn’t talking to coworkers about the matter a severe violation of privacy? Is there anything she can do to get them to go away? thanks

Where are you located. It depends on the laws applicable to you or your mother.
