Career help: Questions about working out, comedy, and motivation. - Help.com

Questions about working out, comedy, and motivation.

I’ll go in the order I listed.

Firstly, I’ve started working out pretty hard lately. I like it a lot, and I bought some protein stuff today- I’m getting worried, though. I’ve heard that if one gets into working out they become too focused on their body and not on life. I don’t want that to happen to me- ever.

I’m also feeling that it’s pointless since I probably won’t work out forever, meaning I’ll lose my muscles and body I’d have worked so hard for. I guess that ties in to my motivational problems, which are coming up.

Next, I have some questions about comedy. I am seriously considering choosing comedy as my career- I adore making people laugh, it’s the best feeling in the world to me. I want to help others through entertainment. I guess I just want some basic information about comedy (stand-up in particular), starting out, and what I need to know if I really want to pursue comedy.

Lastly, I have psychological motivational issues. Lately, I’ve noticed if something doesn’t possess gratification or a reward/feeling of accomplishment for me, I won’t be motivated to do it. I don’t read much because I think, what’s the point? Same story with a lot of things I should probably do. I also have a fun habit of writing down the title of every movie I see, but I think the same thing about that- what’s the point? It makes having fun hobbies difficult.

Thanks so much in advance.

Okay starting with working out when they say losing focus on life thats like crazy body builder people i really don’t think thats you. second working out doesn’t just make you body have muscles and its way worth it.. i stopped working out this summer because i was like ill get in shape when sports start next year and my enter quality of life went down and it took me forever to even realize it. you sleep better and your way more focused on everything and actually genuinley happier, and i never believed that stuff until i experienced it. so its way worth it even if you will lose the muscles later!

No problem i was gonna answer the other ones but i know nothing about comedy and about the motivation thing the only thing i can say is the little habits that make you happy should qualify as getting a reward because i feel accomplished when i make myself happier and stuff and thats rewarding to you. and i wouldn’t really do something if it didn’t benifit me or make me happier or accomplished you just have to see that those little habits do do that..

..that might not have made sense it made more sense in my head

your third point:
i believe it’s not a psychological motivational issue. it’s only human nature for that to happen. people need rewards when they do not genuinely like what they do/about to do. and people don’t need rewards when they LOVE what they do (sorry if it sounded repetitive :)). i mean, we saw people working at pixar and google right? they just love what they’re doing and so they don’t mind working hard. same thing too when taking a hobby and doing everyday activities i guess.

your second point:
i don’t know much about this. the comedy industry in our country is not too lucrative. i believe comedy is an art and science though, a result of both a person’s instinct and established formula. er, i don’t know i wrote this. i guess it might not help lolz

your first point:
i like going to the gym too (but losing weight, not building up. i’m a girl! lol). and indeed, when i stop working out for two weeks i immediately gain 3 pounds or something. anyway, think about the long-term effects of going to the gym instead of the aesthetic or whatnot. like better cardio health, flexibility, better immune system, etc. :)

hope these helps! :) have a nice day ahead.

Don’t worry, it made perfect sense. I guess I’ll try to look at them as happy habits, if they make me happy that’s all that matters, right? Thanks again for your help.

Hmmm, well first off. Its really good that your wokring out, cuz working out..is good :P But if your really worried, about focusing on it too much and not on life, then you should only work out for limited time, like a couple hours of the day, then do something else =) Soo it doesn’t control your life, try to mantain working out for like an hour or something in the morning, showering, then spend the day doing something elsee.

Well , i guess it matters how much you like and enjoy comedy. If you care about it soo mmuch, and want to do it soo much , then i sayy good for it ! Why not? Lifes boring without a risk.
If it doesnt work out, or your unsure, browse other careers =)

Last one, try movitated yourself? Or get your friends, or other people to motivate you?

I dont know if any of this will be helpful at all, but i can only hope :P

Btw, im only 13. Yes, im smart for my age..well, about actual life stuff anyways…& i lovvee helping people.
