depression help: My husband is in the military and we are far away from my family. - Help.com

My husband is in the military and we are far away from my family.

We are trying to save so I work for a local boss who walks all over me. I feel like I have to let him treat me bad so that we can save. Whenever we start to get some cash built up something happens that requires us to spend it. First our car died now our dog tore a huge hole in the wall . I have a history of cutting and I am doing what I can not to slip into that right now. My husband is out to sea so I have no one I can really talk to. He is a wonderful man but his job cant let him be here for me right now. I feel like I cant even take care of myself. I feel like a failure in life.

Sounds like you’re having a difficult time of it lately but things do pick up. At least you have to believe in this. When does your husband get back? Are you that stuck for cash you need to stay in a job you hate? I know what that is like. It has happened to me. I looked for a new job on the QT which I got, handed in my notice and I haven’t looked back since.

I’m sure the forces your husband serves with will have the necessary help you require…. Be strong, your husband is doing a very important job and equally so are you as you give him something to fight for….

Without people like you the forces would not have the same passion… You are very much needed.

1) Start looking for a new job. You could even work for yourself doing daycare for a few kids.
2)Do something for yourself at least once a week. Treat yourself to a movie night at home every week(movies are free from the library, and there are bargain rentals at video rental places). Take a bubble bath with scented candles, soft music, maybe incense, wine and chocolate. Do something special that’s just for you.
3) Get out of the house. Check the local events for all sorts of free stuff to do, concerts, art shows, crafts shows, walks in the park, there’s all sorts of free things to do, and a lot of cheap stuff, too. Take up a craft or hobby. Go to the local library and find some good books (maybe some self help or how to raise your self esteem).
4) Do something to help others, it will help you feel better about yourself. Help the Elderly, volunteer at a nursing home, visit shut-ins, volunteer for Meals on Wheels or a local Literacy Program, donate blood, etc.
5) Join a social group or club. There’s probably some on the local base for military spouses, not to mention local community groups.
6) You may be depressed because of a chemical imbalance, most depressed people are. Check out your area mental health programs, they’re cheap or free if you don’t have a lot of money. You can even get free meds to help your body’s chemical balance from them.

My husband is in Iraq serving his country as well. I have no job because i cant afford to have insurance long enough on my vehicle to actually keep one. I know how hard it is but you have to be strong because your not the only one having trouble. There are hundreds of military wifes and husband that are having it rough. My husband and i dont even have a home.Im having to live with his parents because we cannot afford to have our own place. I know your having it rough but alot of other people have the same problem. I love my husband and i know that everything will work out in the end when he comes home. Being without him is the hardest thing i have ever done. But i know that it will be fine .You need to stop thinking about the negative and think about he possitive. When he gets back things will be better.
