I’m scared to die.

What if everyone was wrong? What if there is no Heaven and that really is the end of it? Or worse, what if it’s not the end of it? What if when we, by definition, die just our body dies and we are trapped in soul inside a dead body forced to continually suffer in never ending pain? I have been questioning myself a lot lately. I am religious to a certain point, however sometimes I just don’t know. I want to believe that there is life after death, good or bad, and so one. Some people may say that my questioning of religion is the first “no,no” of religion but isn’t that the reason we are who today? I mean if it had not been for questioning what you’ve been told and raised by we would not be as diverse a world as we are. I think one of the reasons I might even be thinking of this, is my own religious background. I’m not going say what it is because as much as it sounds, it has nothing to do with any one religion. From the day I was born, I have been exposed to my familiar religion. I was never given a choice on what I believed in or not. I basically was told what I am supposed to believe in. I love my family very much and not saying that exposing your religion to your children is bad but the weird thing is that most Moms and Dads these days are always ranting on about how we should be who we want and should be our own person, as diverse and unique as possible, and one of the major things that I think everyone has heard is: “Don’t let ANYONE define who you are, you are in charge of that and you are the only one who gets a say” Yet when the topic of religion comes in to play, that attitude fade’s away and quickly changes to anger, fear, and the shere will to “…not talk about that”

The fear of death is what drives many people to irrational behavior, like believing in religion(not the only cause). I would suggest you eradicate that fear as soon as possible. We all die, you may as well accept it. And when it happens, nothing from your life is going to matter anymore.

I could tell you what I believe to be, in the significance of death, if you wish.

To say nothing happens after death is ridiculous, alot of things are going to happen. “Just our body dies and we are trapped in soul inside a dead body forced to continually suffer in never ending pain?” i’m completely sure that it doesn’t happen.

I think it is an intresting question you have raised. I grew up with the fear of god and as an adult, released myself from those shackles that had been placed on me. I think you should consider doing the same. Death is inevitable, best to get on with the job in hand and enjoy your life. No one knows for certain if there is an afterlife so best not to think too hard about it. I am hoping for nothing from death other than a release from having to think too hard about this sort of thing.

i have struggled with this question too but have come to the conclusion that we, as long as we’re alive, won’t know the answer. i’ve never really had a religion forsed on me but i was brought to church every sunday and christmas untill a certain age then my parents said it wasn’t their place to anymore and if we wanted to go we could on our own merit. I was confussed about religion and god etc for most of my teenage years, my parents seemed to have a need to bring us to church (can only assume because of their own upbringing) but i later found out that neither actually believed in it, I can only conclude they did it for social reasons and i think many people are stuck in this cycle without giving it much consideration. I studied Anthropology in college at realised that all people all over the world believe in something ’supernatural’, for want of a better word, and again came to the conclusion that religion is the ideal answer to all the questions we as humans can’t answer. such as ‘what happens after we die??’ ‘god will look after us’ ‘why are we here?’ ‘god put us here’ ‘why should i behave’ ‘because god will smite you for it’ lol put simply religion is a human concept designed to find easy answers to difficult questions….. and also a form of control :)

I very much agree with the ‘form of control’ Jaca has commented on. Putting the fear of god into people ensured they complied with what they are being told. We should be living in more enlightened times when people have the information in order for them to make up their own minds.

No I’m not Muslim, again not to say that it matters because I have found that no matter what the religion or belief, whether devout or just walking the line of there own beliefs, there is always some form of questioning, whether admitted or not. I do believe in my God. The base for my questioning has nothing to do with the existence of God. I do agree with many concepts brought forth that may explain the need for religion. My questions are deeper than yes or no. nlfr, if you look back at what you just said, you are in a way just saying what was said before in a different manner. Whether true existence of high power or not, that “aim” we as human beings have needs to have a purpose or life may very well be seen irrelevant, and people’s lives expendable.
