depression help: I used to be the most motivated person in the world, would only have to be asked a thing once before doing it. - Help.com

I used to be the most motivated person in the world, would only have to be asked a thing once before doing it.

My college work was excellent and I had no problems studying. But then I became unhappier and unhappier because I never really fitted in socially in college. While others constantly liked drinking, etc., I did not. So I started comfort eating on weekends when I got home. Now months later and 5 stone heavier, I have been diagnosed with Atypical Depression and am on Proazc for it. But I am stuck in a rut. I don’t do anything anymore. My weight disgusts me and I hate what I see when I look in the mirror. Any ideas on how to motivate myself again and get the weight down?

Gotta love that HelpBot! Do you get regular exercise? Even something as light as going for a walk every day, or taking up jogging/swimming/cycling if you’re up for something a bit more strenuous. It gets you up and doing something, will help you lose weight and can even help with your moods too

Motivation is usually felt when something rewarding at the end is seen beforehand.

That’s a good piece of advice, but I just need to find the thing that is the most rewarding. I know a college degree should be rewarding, so I don’t know whats wrong!

Good results will buttress a person’s motivation. When I make a good score on a test then I am motivated to study vigorously for the next test.

You may be on the wrong medication, but typically depression meds will help you gain weight. I think one thing you can do is learn to flirt. You will get good reactions and that will help lift your self-image and confidence! Don’t depend on others for your happiness though! make it your own! Have fun!
